Mary Thompson was born in Bristol, England, in 1978. Mary graduated with a first class honors degree in Fine Art from University College Falmouth in 2001, specialising in drawing and installation. She travels the globe extensively, resulting in geographical and cartographical references manifesting themselves in her work. Mary was recently selected to take part in Unleashed Devices, a prestigious exhibition at the Watermans Gallery, London, critically and creatively exploring the functions of technologies.

Mary’s work is ephemeral, organic and time-based. Experimentation and playfulness are intrinsic to both her large scale 2D and 3D drawings. She uses familiar materials, subverting their predetermined role in everyday life to create intricate, sensitive, colourful structures, which amass into elaborate arenas in which the viewer may enter. Within these constructed spaces, motion-sensitive drawing machines scrawl, vibrate and draw on the floor when a viewer is present, creating an information graphic - a visual record of the presence of whoever has interacted with the space.
